Presidents and Prime Ministers Push Boundaries with Mitchell Bard
Watch on YouTube
Description
Americans and Israelis routinely pledge not to interfere in each other’s internal affairs. Almost as routinely, they do interfere to whether in elections, legislation, or personnel. Indeed, this is a special feature of U.S.-Israel relations, dubbed by Mitchell Bard and Daniel Pipes “in this most family-like of [diplomatic] relationships” in their joint 1997 Middle East Quarterly article. Why does this mutual interference exist? And is it, overall, a plus or minus? Does one side benefit more than the other?
Mitchell Bard is executive director of the American Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE) and director of the Jewish Virtual Library. Dr. Bard has written and edited 22 books relating to the Middle East. He has a BA from UC-Santa Barbara, an MA from UC-Berkeley, and a PhD from UCLA.
