Red Sea Security and the Houthi Challenge with Michael Rubin
Watch on YouTube
Description
The #Houthis of Yemen (formally, the Ansar Allah) are an Iranian-supported Shia Islamist movement currently preventing freedom of navigation through the Red Sea, one of the world’s most important waterways. Their threat to global trade shows no signs of abating: How did the Houthis arise? Does #Tehran directly command and control them? What are their links to other groups in the region, such as #Hamas? Will the current U.S. attempt to protect shipping work? If not, what alternatives exist?
Michael Rubin is director of policy analysis at the Middle East Forum and a past editor of the Middle East Quarterly. He also serves as a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. Mr. Rubin has lived and traveled legendarily throughout the Middle East, including Yemen, Lebanon Syria, Iraq, and Iran. He holds a BS in biology and history and an an MA and PhD in history, all from Yale University.
