The Price of Standing Up to Hamas in Gaza with Rami Aman
Watch on YouTube
Description
Rami Aman organized a “Skype with Your Enemy,” call between 200 Gazans and Israelis in 2020. For this, Hamas arrested him along with two others, charged him with “weakening revolutionary spirit,” tortured him, and imprisoned him for eight months. It only released him on condition he divorce his wife. But Aman has not given up and argues that Hamas is increasingly unpopular in Gaza. What was his experience in a Hamas prison? How are Gazans pushing back? What effect does his work have?
Trained as an engineer, working as a freelance journalist, Rami Aman founded the Gaza Youth Committee in 2010 and is a leader of the Consortium of Independent Palestinians, an opposition party in Gaza. He has organized several Skype calls between Gazans and Israelis. He lives in Cairo.
